5-4-2013 - Freedom begins after life's basic needs are met. There is no freedom when hunger, fear of attack, infirmity and illness, or the elements drive behavior for survival. Under rule of law, freedom should be short lived for those who infringe upon others' freedoms. Whenever government, or other organizations in society, demonstrate disregard for these fundamentals, they will foment civil action at best, or civil disorder and unrest, at worst. If one stands for freedom, and applies this understanding to the actions of elected representatives, deciding whether an incumbent deserves your vote, is far simpler. Citizenship requires responsible citizens holding representatives accountable.
4-18-2013 - The failure of the Gun Safety legislation to pass, depsite overwhelming public support for it, demonstrates the corruption in our government that allows well financed minority special interests like the gun manufacturers and NRA leadership, to control the country's agenda and key members of our Congress. One fundamental reason this gun legislation failed is our corrupt campaign financing system which gives overwhelming power of intimidation to corporate lobbyists to use against legislators. The other reason is, of course, the voters who elected those who can be intimidated.

It is not paranoid to distrust our government.
Whether one sits on the left or right of the political spectrum, gross
fiscal and economic mismanagement, unnecessary war, failures in justice,
and a corrupted political process remain facts and evidence that our
government, in the hands of the two parties and elected officials, has
failed the American public.
However, it is also true that the American voters can hold their representatives accountable on Election Day for their justified fears. Voting for incumbents is voting to keep what we already have in the way of government. When 80 to 90% of representatives are reelected, their is no mandate for change in our government. Our future remains in the hands of the voting public as it always has.
