HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled,
public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should
be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands
should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again
learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."

Cicero - 55 BC

TERM LIMITS

It's your choice. WE DO HAVE TERM LIMITS!!! We haven't used them very effectively and an incumbent would try to convince you not to exercise your TERM LIMITS prerogative; that to VOTE OUT THE INCUMBENT. The infinite wisdom of our Founding Fathers, people just like us, realized that men and women once elected to a public office would want to stay there as long as possible, even if they were doing a ineffective job.

A LESSON TO RELEARN

Lessons from the past...well it has been a long, long time, so none of us would have remembered it. Our founding fathers in developing our constitution and three branches of government with the check and balance principal carried that thinking one step further. In creating the House of Representatives, their thinking was to have a branch that truly represented the people and were to remain close to the populace.

MY WAY - NOT YOUR WAY

The incumbent from the 5th district of Virginia now refuses to debate the challenger. A debate had been in the works for several months and was on the incumbent's schedule.

Neither the incumbent nor his staff has given a reason for the cancellation. We can sit around and speculate the reason for the cancellation, but that won't do any good. There are several other points that should be made about this incumbent's behavior. One of the most cherished forums in Congress is that of debate.

More of the same?

The incumbent from the 6th district of Virginia released this news bulletin following the vote to bail out Wall Street. The following are two paragraphs from that release.

Our economy faces historic and unprecedented challenges. Most importantly Congress must not view the passage of the Financial Stabilization Package as the lone solution to the troubles in our national economy. It is critical that Congress continue to examine the root cause of this crisis, including fiscal irresponsibility and a lack of resolve to rebuild our domestic economy, including energy production.

Introduction to VOID - VIRGINIA

American citizens are becoming angrier with the direction that our leaders are taking the nation. Congress has a lower approval rating than even our unpopular President. We, the people, are not happy with:

  • the lack of transparency and accountability of our representatives
  • we are not happy with the bailout of Wall Street
  • big banks and insurance companies
  • we are not happy with the high gas and energy prices
  • we are not happy with the deficit spending that our representatives are promoting
  • we are not happy with the progress of the wars that we are engaged in
  • we are not happy with the amount of money we are borrowing
  • we are not happy with the length of time a poor bad politicians serve in congress.

Introductions:

My name is David Remer, president of the national political action organization known as Vote Out Incumbents for Democracy, or VOID, for short. I am excited to see the great state of Virginia join in our effort to help voters grasp the power of unseating incumbents, and the necessity for doing so, as our government fails us. VOID is an all volunteer organization founded at the end of 2005, and still growing from state to state.
