MY WAY - NOT YOUR WAY

The incumbent from the 5th district of Virginia now refuses to debate the challenger. A debate had been in the works for several months and was on the incumbent's schedule.

Neither the incumbent nor his staff has given a reason for the cancellation. We can sit around and speculate the reason for the cancellation, but that won't do any good. There are several other points that should be made about this incumbent's behavior. One of the most cherished forums in Congress is that of debate.

To get all sides out and discussed before trying to make a decision. So the incumbent in this case is dismissing the debate forum for some reason. So a debate isn't that important or isn't in his best interest. My question is the Congressman being responsible to his constituents? VOID - VIRGINIA's mission is to educate so you can decide when incumbents are behaving or acting irresponsibly.

The next point is the tenure of the incumbent in Congress. Perhaps the reason for canceling the debate is that the incumbent feels his seniority gives him privileges over the challenger. Again, I ask is the incumbent behaving responsible. If he isn't eager enough to represent himself to his constituents, what makes you believe that he will represent you when he is in Washington DC?

The third point to make is that of reporting. Even though the debate is a way to get all sides out on the table, it is, also, a way to report to his constituents on what he has or has not done in his representation of the people. Negative television ads are a poor avenue for reporting to the people. As a matter of fact, it's all one way; no one can ask questions or seek further explanation from the television ad. Again, I ask is the incumbent behaving responsible.

Please consider joining VOID - VIRGINIA to help spread the word and to vote responsible to stop this reckless way of running our government and treating it's citizens. Our website is voidnow.org/Virginia.
