BJP appoints 2022 Assembly poll leaders: Dharmendra Pradhan for UP, Pralhad Joshi for Uttarakhand
As it prepares for parliamentary elections slated for early next year, the ruling BJP announced on Wednesday that Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has been appointed party election manager for Uttar Pradesh , while the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi, would oversee the preparations for the elections in Uttarakhand.
Jal Shakti’s minister, Gajendra Shekhawat, has been assigned to Punjab, where the BJP is under fire for the three disputed agricultural laws. The Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, is in charge of the poll in Manipur.
The BJP is in power in all these federated states, except in the Punjab, where its oldest ally Shiromani Akali Dal leaves the NDA on farm laws, saying they were not in the best interests of farmers.
In Uttar Pradesh, where winning the assembly is crucial for the BJP’s return to power in the 2024 elections in Lok Sabha, Pradhan will be assisted by Union ministers Anurag Singh Thakur, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Sobha Karandlaje, Annapoorna Devi, former Minister of State of Haryana Capt Abhimanyu, top party leader and MP for Rajya Sabha Saroj Pande and Vivek Thakur, MP for Rajya Sabha.
Lok Sabha MP Locket Chatterjee and party spokesperson RP Singh are co-responsible for Uttarakhand with Joshi. The BJP recently changed his prime minister to Uttarakhand – the third in this term assembly. The appointment of Pushkar Singh Dhami, who replaced Tirath Singh Rawat who was only CM for four months, has given new hope for a return to power to state unity, which has been plagued by internal strife and the opposition to power.
Bhupender Yadav, who had led the BJP’s campaign and electoral work in a number of key states like Gujarat and Bihar, among others, will be assisted by Union Ministers Pratima Bhaumik and Minister of Assam Ashok Singhal.
Shekhawat will benefit from the assistance of Union ministers Hardip Puri, Meenakshi Lekhi and Lok Sabha MP Vinod Chawda to manage the preparations for the Punjab elections.
