The BJP’s two-day brainstorming session in Gujarat which started on Sunday provided an update on preparations for the Assembly elections.
The session was held at a private golf resort 75 km from Ahmedabad attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel among others.
“Party leaders took stock of the preparations. We will form the next government with a historic mandate,” BJP spokesman Yagnesh Dave said. Party leaders discussed comments from each of the 182 seats, the performance of its sitting lawmakers and state government, and how various state and center programs were being implemented.
Monday’s session ended with a speech by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who called on leaders to ensure the party wins assembly elections with a historic mandate, beating the 27-year-old anti-incumbency.
The BJP has won assembly elections since 1995.
The party leaders also reportedly discussed the aggressive campaign launched by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and how his arrival would affect the political scenario in the state.
“We will focus on winning 182 seats in the Assembly,” BJP General Secretary Pradipsinh Waghela said after the session ended on Monday.
Gujarat’s ruling party is already in campaign mode, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting the state once a month, in addition to launching new projects and initiatives via video conference.
Mr Modi has visited his home state twice since March and attended half a dozen events online.
The ruling party has also inducted a number of congressional leaders, including prominent tribal lawmaker Ashwin Kotwal, who joined the party earlier this month. A few other opposition party leaders are expected to switch to the saffron camp in the coming days.
