Considering the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in Himachal Pradesh: Jairam Thakur

By Santosh Kumar Pathak,
New Delhi, April 25 (SocialNews.XYZ) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur on Monday described Congress as leaderless and directionless and claimed the people of his state will never accept either the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He added that his government is considering implementing the Uniform Civil Code in the state and a study is also underway in this regard.
On Sunday, Thakur, while speaking with IANS, answered several important questions on issues such as the political situation in the state, the preparations for the Assembly elections, the political attack on the AAP, the challenges facing Congress and the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in the state.
Q: Considering that Himachal Pradesh will go to the polls soon and no government has been elected twice in a row here, do you think this curse will be broken this time?
A: It is true that after 1985, no government has come to power twice in a row in this state, but this time we will break the curse. There was a similar custom in the five states where the polls were concluded recently. But the BJP was then elected to power for the second consecutive term in Uttarakhand.
After almost 37 years in Uttar Pradesh, a government has been repeated. This is why the custom has changed and this change is not just limited to Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur and Goa but all over India. Hence, the BJP government will once again win the elections in Himachal Pradesh.
Q: So far the main contest here has been between BJP and Congress but this time the AAP is also competing as Delhi Chief Minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal are frequently visited in Himachal Pradesh.
A: You see, Himachal Pradesh has never accepted a third option, so there is no room for doubt here. They are trying to prove their presence in the state, but they won’t get any success. The people of Himachal will not accept AAP’s strategies of making offensive comments and unparliamentary allegations about others. No matter what he says, there is no place for him in Himachal Pradesh.
Q: However, Arvind Kejriwal constantly targets your government. They even say that you copied their political roadmap?
A: It’s not that he only considers himself smart, he deserves to believe that no one else is so smart. The plans we run in the state are not new, but for years we have included new things in some of the plans. He (Kejriwal) should understand that the BJP is the biggest party not only in the country but in the world. We have the leadership of visionary Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and National President JP Nadda. We don’t need to copy anyone.
Q: How big is the challenge of Congress? Can Prashant Kishor also play a big role in deciding Congress’ election strategy?
A: Of course, Congress is the oldest party in the country and has been in power in the state for years, but now it has become a leaderless and leadershipless party. As for Prashant Kishor, he is only advising the Congress, but we have a solid organizational structure and strong leadership at the central level. Our Prime Minister is Narendra Modi and the national chairman of our party is JP Nadda who is from Himachal and we also have the support of Amit Shah. For these reasons, a strong BJP government will be formed in the state.
Q: The BJP had three main programs: Article 370, the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya and the uniform civil code. Article 370 has been removed from Kashmir, construction works of a big Ram temple in Ayodhya is going on and many states with BJP government are also considering the uniform civil code. What do you think of this in Himachal Pradesh?
A: It’s a good decision (a step taken by some BJP state governments), it sent a message in the right direction. The state government is also considering and studying the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in Himachal Pradesh. We asked officials to consider what kind of law can be brought in the context of Himachal Pradesh. We don’t want to take hasty action because we want to bring it to the state better.
Q: You kept claiming to form the state government again. But what do you have to say about anti-establishment in the state? It is also said that the party will cut the tickets by about 20%. 100 of the deputies?
A: You see, in government, sometimes, for various reasons, there may be slight disappointments or disagreements among party workers or the public. In this regard, the central leadership will conduct an investigation, a study according to the seat and after that, the party leadership will decide on the distribution of tickets. But I can say that there is no such period of anti-incumbency in Himachal Pradesh.
Q: Do you have a seating target?
A: I will only say that the BJP government will be formed again in Himachal Pradesh and it will be formed with a good majority.
