Elections Board uncovers multiple campaign finance violations by former Providence City Council candidate Gerald Catala

RHODE ISLAND, July 7 – CRANSTON, RI – On June 28, 2022, the Rhode Island State Board of Elections met in executive session to consider an audit of the former City Council candidate’s campaign finances of Providence, Gerard C. Catala. The audit, conducted by the Council’s Campaign Finance Division, found multiple breaches of campaign finance law. Following the findings, Council voted to refer the matter to the Attorney General’s Office for review and possible prosecution.
The Board of Directors is responsible for enforcing Rhode Island’s campaign finance laws and will take all actions authorized by law to ensure candidate and committee compliance.
