Nevadans have no reason to trust candidates who laugh at the Big Lie

At the end of last week, the nation learned of the result of the Republican-led, circus-like election “audit” in Arizona, and it came as a shock.
A draft version of the report, produced by supporters unqualified to perform an actual audit, showed Joe Biden won the vote in Arizona, as previously verified and certified. The only surprise in the report – one that undoubtedly sent former President Donald Trump into an orange-faced tantrum – was that Biden won a few hundred more votes in Maricopa County than he originally had. reported.
Even a fictitious election count conducted by a biased company using voodoo methodology cannot reveal significant voter fraud. On the contrary, the existing processes were so secure that the bogus effort couldn’t find a way to fake the results. In a sane world this would be the official epitaph of The Big Lie, but the GOP no longer lives in a sane world and, unfortunately, the party’s vandalism on democracy will continue.
Not that rational Americans had doubts about the legitimacy of the vote, but the results of the mock audit offer further evidence of the inadequacy of any candidate supporting the Big Lie.
We’re watching you, Adam Laxalt. And you, Dean Heller. We also take a look at Joe Lombardo, John Lee, and any other Nevadan who refuses to recognize Biden as the rightfully elected president and refuses to recognize that the election in Nevada was free and fair.
These candidates are grossly dishonorable, undermining confidence in the vote on the basis of false allegations of significant fraud. Worse yet, they stoke animosity among the hard-right-wing extremists towards election officials and volunteers in Nevada.
Heller is the last candidate to wade through this gutter. Announcing his gubernatorial candidacy last week, the former US senator scoffed at politics saying he knew who was legitimately elected president, but declined to say whether it was Biden or of Trump. Heller also called the election a “mess,” but provided no evidence of widespread voter fraud.
Without a doubt, Heller thinks he’s politically smart doing this dance. As with others in the race – Lombardo, the Clark County Sheriff, and Lee, the Mayor of North Las Vegas – what is evident is that Heller thinks he can’t win the primary without supporting. the Big Lie and thus appeal to extreme right-wing extremists. in the party. But by being shy about who he considers the real president, he retains the possibility of coming back to the center and attracting moderates if he wins the primary.
This is crass political calculation, and there is nothing admirable or cute about it. By not disowning the Big Lie, Heller wipes his feet on American democracy and proves himself unfit for the role he seeks. Lombardo and Lee also take this gooey approach – both eschew perfectly appropriate questions about the legitimacy of the 2020 vote.
Worse yet, Heller has been in the shoes of the thousands of Nevada election workers whom he smears and puts at increased risk of threats and violence from the right. He was a former Nevada Secretary of State who oversaw the state’s elections from 1995 to 2007.
In his campaign ad, Heller dishonored himself even more by specifically targeting Clark County Registrar of Electors Joe Gloria for abuse by suggesting he would have ousted Gloria last year had he been able to do it.
This is appalling – Gloria and her team have done an extraordinary job of managing free, fair and safe primary and general elections under the extreme duress of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite multiple lawsuits by Laxalt, no legitimate evidence of significant voter fraud has been found in Nevada.
Now the Cyber Ninjas are shamelessly fleeing, their pockets filled with money supporting Trump as their lies, incompetence, and electoral fraud attempts evaporate under the Arizona sun.
And it came just days after it was reported that Trump’s campaign had based its legal attack on voting on claims it knew to be false.
The reality is that Trump was eliminated and there was no significant voter fraud. Anyone who suggests otherwise is not worthy of a leadership position.
