from Snapchat Running for the office portal aims to help young people launch their political careers. By creating a Mini, the social media platform will connect people interested in politics and candidates for available political positions that may be of interest to them. And with over 75,000 positions to seek out, there is bound to be something for everyone interested in political office, something that interests more young people.

To conceptualize and build Running for the office, according to to commit, Snapchat worked with 10 recruiting organizations to create a huge database of available political offices that young people could run for. Before they can search for available offices, potential candidates must complete a brief questionnaire that includes interests and things passionate about change. Once this is done, according to The edge, young people will be put in touch with candidate recruiting organizations that can help provide resources on how to run a successful campaign. And with organizations from New American Leaders, Run GenZ, LGBTQ Victory Institute, and more, the ability to have more multicultural and diverse candidates to be successful in political office can be as easy as a click of an application. .

And for those who may not be interested in taking on a position themselves but have friends or know other people in the community who would be a perfect fit for a position, according to to commit, users can also name others from the thumbnail app in Snapchat.

This isn’t Snapchat’s first foray into politics, according to The edge. In 2018, the app offered resources to register to vote for the primaries. And again in 2020, the app offered not only registration features to vote, but also a voter guide and checklist to help users verify that they had done everything right to make their vote count. during the vote to elect the next President of the United States.

According to the publication, these resources have been used by nearly 30 million users. As such, they are poised to exert tremendous influence in the political arena by having a population of 13-24, many of whom are of office age. And if they are not yet able to perform their duties due to their age, according to NPR, young people can always sign up to learn more about the issues they care about and how they can help their community even without holding a position.

By making young people understand that it is not only rich Americans who can take office, the hope is that the political office will begin to look like real life, and that the diverse makeup of the community can be reflected as well. by lawmakers.
