Watch: In 2016, “Art of the Deal” co-author predicted Trump would blame voter fraud if he lost
In 2016, Tony Schwartz, the real author of Trump’s Business art, told an Oxford audience that Trump would never concede the election to Hillary Clinton if he loses, and instead attribute his stolen victory to a rigged election.
Look, much more mentally healthy presidential candidates than he has gone through long periods of depression following their losses. It is a huge public loss and a humiliation. But Trump is not available for depression. He just won’t go there, I don’t think so. So instead, he will go to anger. And he will stir up that anger that is inside his supporters in any way he can to prove that he has been wronged, that the elections have been rigged, and that he hasn’t really lost. Believe me when I say that. When Trump loses the election, he will never recognize, he will not concede the election, and he will never recognize that he lost the election. Because to do that is to feel devastated, and he doesn’t go. It will therefore be a period of dangerous tension in America in the weeks following the election.
To which the interviewer says, “Thank you, very scary.”
